Since graduating from Samford University in 2002 and earning a MBA from UAB in 2004, Kimberly has dreamed of owning her own business. Coupled with more than eleven years of experience in event planning and marketing and a heart for the local community, she began to pursue ways to accomplish this dream.
Brock graduated from Auburn University in the winter of 2000. He is currently in his twelfth year in corporate benefits consulting and works with various size companies throughout Alabama. Sharing the dream with his wife to own a business, he began looking for ways to meet, encourage, and reach out to the people in his community.
The dream of opening a donut shop started in the fall of 2011 when another small donut shop opened in Calera not far from Brock’s office. Seeing how many people frequented that store, Kimberly and Brock began to think they had found a way to get involved in their own community. After many months of prayer, they received confirmation that they should move forward with opening a donut shop. They began to search for a mentor who could guide them through the process of starting a business. A friend suggested they contact Dave Upton, a local Vestavia Hills businessman who has been involved in many successful businesses throughout his life and is currently the President of Ambucs – a nonprofit organization. Mr. Upton’s first suggestion was for Kimberly and Brock to find a extremely successful donut shop somewhere in the country, contact them and ask if that shop would be willing to mentor them as well. Their search led them to Gibson’s Donuts in Memphis, TN. The owner not only agreed to help, but allowed Kimberly and Brock to train in his kitchen and even sent one of his cooks to Birmingham to train the cooks at The Heavenly Donut Company.
Kimberly and Brock live in the Altadena area of Birmingham. In December 2016, their baby boy was born. They are members of Church of the Highlands where they serve on the Dream Team.
We are excited to see our vision for a different kind of donut shop come to life. We hope you will come and visit, take a dozen to go or hang out with us for a while and enjoy the atmosphere. More than the donuts, though, we hope you’ll leave our store encouraged and feeling a little happier just having been here.
